We seek a talented and engaged PhD student willing to be part of a world-leading research environment and contribute to the development of the next generation of offshore wind power plants, optimized for operation with offshore energy hubs.

The Division for Power and Energy Systems at the Department of Wind and Energy Systems provides cutting-edge research in sustainable, reliable and cost-efficient energy systems to the benefit of society. At the Department, you will enjoy the advantages of a creative and inspiring work environment shared with about 400 highly skilled and motivated colleagues.

The PhD student will join an international team of postdocs and PhD students that, together with senior academic staff and industry partners, develop methods and solutions for the establishment of very large Offshore Energy Hubs, all part of the flagship project Offshore Energy Hubs.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be part of a dynamic work environment with a pleasant team atmosphere, where you will have the opportunity to grow and develop your academic, industrial, and personal skills. You are expected to carry out high-quality research on the intersection of wind power technology, power systems, power electronics and control systems, both from a theoretical/analytical point of view and through experimental/laboratory work. The aim of the PhD study is to develop the next generation of wind power plants, optimized for operation with offshore energy hubs. This involves both individual turbine/plant capabilities like reactive power provision and multi-plant level stability assessment.

We are looking for a self-motivated and team-oriented person who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working with complex topics.

  • Experience with power electronics control
  • Power system dynamics
  • Experience with software tools such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, etc.

You must also possess:

  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Good ability to present results in oral presentations and prepare scientific papers for publication in international journals
